There are a number of levels of fitness in the writing of Torah Scrolls, Tefillin, Mezuzot, and Megillot:
Fit after the fact (bediavad) - This refers to simple writing, that raises a number of halakhic questions, and which a rabbi has ruled to be fit.
Fit from the outset (le-chatchilah) - Writing that is not very fine, but about which there are no halakhic doubts.
The finest quality (mehudar) - Fine writing, of unquestioned fitness.
All of the Torah Scrolls, Tefillin, Mezuzot, and Megillot produced by "Oter Israel" are written only with the highest level of fitness, that of mehudar. Special care is taken, and emphasis is placed on especially fine and elegant writing. Needless to say, such exacting craftsmanship precludes the possibility of any halakhic questions regarding the finished writing. If any halakhic question arises during the course of the scribe`s work, the product is immediately deposited in the Genizah, regardless of the number of work-hours that have been invested in it. Such an inferior product would never be given to any customer of "Oter Israel".
